mostin
Before I start I just want to make it clear that I have NOT overdosed my chickens. I have read everybodys hints and tips and at the moment I am carefully trying the half a grape method. It's just in my nature to always want to know the answers to things. When people do overdose their chickens, and then carry on eating the eggs, what happens to the people who eat the eggs? I know I have a sick mind, but I work for the NHS and I am programmed to ask these questions, I can't help it.
Egluntyne
Nothing much. If they have had a double dose, as in the case of gape worm, an egg withdrawal period is recommended. Usually for the course of the treatment and one week after. Therefore, if you have accidentally OD'd your hens, it would be a sensible precaution to withdraw the eggs. Chickvic
I don't think I've overdosed my girls but sometimes the flubenvet seems really 'thick' on the grapes. They only have half a grape each with the powder on and I admit I haven't eaten any of their eggs from this week because I'm unsure how much powder should stick to the grape! I hope that this ramble makes sense and someone could reassure me. Sorry Mostin hi-jacked your thread but I would be interested in the answer to your question too! Chooks Aloud
I just make a slit and open up the grape and put some flubenvet in with a knife. I don't measure just get it in there. I've always eaten our eggs when they are being wormed and I've had no problems. Karen
mostin
I know how to the dosing, I just wondered what happened to people if they eat eggs from hens that have been overdosed? I just like to know the answers to these questions. I have visions of peoples hair turning green overnight, or projectile vomiting, or does it just worm the humans, or make the eggs taste really wierd or an odd colour. It was that kind of weird side effect I was wondering about?
Egluntyne
Nothing like that as the flubenvet isn't absorbed into the hen in the same way that say, an antibiotic would be.
GEB
I think I may have been somewhat over generous when I wormed mine...I don't really know as it all seemed so unprecise. However I'm sure my greediest girl was definatly overdosed. We continued eating all the eggs, with no side effects ( didn't give any away just in case!). bokbokbok
As an aside - can I ask "what happens to the chooks if you overdose" ? Sorry - I haven't checked to see if this has been asked elsewhere - have just been reading here. Is it poisonous? Will it make them ill? Will it just work "quicker"? Do you see the effects if it has worked? Tomorrow is my last day of worming and I have been wondering all week "what if . . ."
Egluntyne
They might get a short lived intestinal upset.

When people do overdose their chickens, and then carry on eating the eggs, what happens to the people who eat the eggs? Ok, I have a confession! I gave mine a double dose of flubenvet for gapeworm and also wondered what would happen if I ate the eggs. Not being able to resist an experiment on myself and thinking it would be a shame to waste the eggs, I ate them all There were no ill effects. I wouldn't have let anyone else eat them though.
