Autumn
Every day when I go to clean the hen house out, I notice that alot of the straw that should be in the nest boxes ends up mixed in with the shavings in the actual hen house. This is really annoying as it makes it more difficult to clean out, (I use a scoop to sieve the shavings) but also, they end up with alot less straw in the nest box and I ended up with 2 cracked eggs last week where it landed on wood rather than straw! My original two hens were quite happy laying by sitting ontop of the straw but I think it's since two new ones have started laying, they seem to like making a hollow in the straw to lay in. The nest boxes have a drop down into and also a 2 inch high lip which is supposed to prevent this. Has anyone any other suggestions? x
chucknette
Hi I switched to aubiose or easibed (whichever I can get at the time). They tend to like pulling the straw about when they are laying their eggs and yours are obviously throwing it out of the nest. When mine have layed they go off and find some long straw like plant to throw over their backs. I look on it as giving themselves a medal Best wishes
Egluntyne
If you put Aubiose in both it will no longer be a problem......Super stuff.
