buffie
I certainly do Richard may be able to help you at Thrift Farm 01908 501733. It's a local government run small holding for adults with learning disabilities. It's terrific and open weekdays only. Buffie x

Have you emailed barbara@omlet.co.uk? She has a list of breeders/suppliers who have been recommended by Omleteers Are you near Banbury then Eggs? sheik
Thorne's near Letchworth - really nice place to visit. They are a rare breed poultry centre with lots of hybrids too. They have about a dozen open air permanent flocks of pure breeds which are nice to wander around. /\dam
Redwing
I have heard that Cotswold Chickens are very good too. If I don't go for ex batts that is where I will be going! (not travelling from Bristol mind! I am moving to Towcester in 2 weeks )
The Dogmother
There's another poultry centre in Towcester Redwing. I can't remember the name but I passed it on to barbara@omlet.co.uk, send her an email and she'll tell you the name. Jude had some very pretty Bluebelles last weekend. lynseymander
hiya, thank you all for your replies. We think we're gonna go to cotswolds because we like the way we can get everything we need in one place. oh another quick question..... will the chooks be ok in the car for an hour and 30 minutes. i'm just worried if this will stress them out too much? thanks Lynsey
quickcluck
They will be fine. We took boxes to put ours in. A large crisp box with a bit of shredded paper, and two went in each. We didn't hear a peep, I think they just go to sleep in the dark!
The Dogmother
It's best to get them to quite a tight fit in the box as they prefer to be cuddled up together - less sliding about. So long as it's well ventilated and out of the sun. When are you going? I will be there myself Saturday afternoon.
lynseymander
oh thats a shame, we were going to go this weekend. but my husband still hasnt finished (or shall i say started) the run. so we're probably going to go up next weekend instead. i am very excited now. although most of my friends and family think i'm mad cos most of my time is taken up with my 5 yr old son and 9 month old daughter. oh and can't forget foxy our 7 month lab cross (she looks just like a fox, hope she doesn't scare the chickens. lol) but i'm sure i'll fit them in. we're thinking of getting 4, do you think thats to many to start with? our coop should take 8. I guess we'll speak to them at cotswolds and see what they say. also my mum mentioned that when she worked at a playgroup some of the kids got salmonella from petting the chickens at a farm. is this likely to happen with my kids? i think they are vaccinated at cotswolds does this mean they wont pass it on? thanks Lynsey
The Dogmother
Four is a good number Salmonella shouldn't be a problem, just remind the little uns to wash their hands regularly. My grand parents had planty of chooks and I don't remember us having salmonella at all, in fact they had the 'speck of dirt' philosophy and I have a very strong immune system as a result. I use a handwash I make up myself, I use Bio-D washing up liquid (very gentle and no chemicals) with a few drops of tea tree oil and lavender oil.
