Janty
Garlic powder goes in with the pellets. I usually put a heaped tablespoon in with their layers mash every morning. With a grub full of pellets add a few tablespoons. Enjoy your new girls, Jan
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I put a teaspoon of garlic powder, a teaspoon of poultry spice and a big handful of bokashi bran in the pellets and give it a mix up. The garlic and bran were because everyone recommended them on here. Bran for firm poos, garlic for less smelly ones. The spice I add because it's tasty and healthy. I add it a couple of times a week. I have a 3kg feeder. I then add a dash of cider vinegar - probably about a tablespoon or two - to the water. Apparently this helps reduce the chance of them getting worms as worms don't like the acidity of the vinegar. Job done! Are you very excited about your new arrivals? lynseymander
thanks for your replies. yes i'm very excited although they're not coming into their run because i think the dog keeps scaring them. anna: do you mix it in a bucket first before putting it in the feeder? because i tried doing it in the feeder and just spilt it everywhere. lol
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I sometimes swish it around in the upper part of the feeder before filling the rest of the feeder up, or else I chuck it all in a big mixing bowl. I then use a funnel to tip it all in to the feeder. Palaver! On the dog tip, someone else on here was having dog trouble and Mostin mentioned a bloke called The Dog Whisperer. There's a youtube video of him training a dog to be chicken-friendly. It may help you get a handle on the dog/chicken relationship. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ps8g86khGFE Anna x
