Mrs Frugal
Hi Kaz, Is this the recipe you're after Homemade Beeswax Polish 75g beeswax 150ml turpentine (real turpentine, not turps substitute) Lavender oil Melt beeswas over hot water in a double boiler. Stir in turpentine and lavender oil and pour into a screw top jar. Cool and use on wood sparingly, rubbing off to a shine with a clean cloth. I've got another one which has soap flakes in which is lovely but it might take a bit to find the recipe!! I'll post it when I do! OK here's the other recipe. Lavender Beeswax Polish 60g beeswax 300ml turpentine 25g soap flakes 150ml boiling water Few drops lavender oil Melt wax and turpentine in a double boiler over heat. In a separate bowl, add the soap flakes to the boiling water. When the soapy mixture has cooled to lukewarm, add them to the melted beeswax off the heat and stir. Add the oil and mix well. Pour into a screw topped jar and leave to cool. I like this one as it's a wonderfully creamy mixture which works really well.
Mrs Frugal
You can use borax for all sorts of things, Kaz. I use it as a scouring powder for cleaning the bath and toilet. It's also effective against mildew and mould. I posted a recipe for washing powder from MrsL's forum (hortus dorset from INEBG) in the green cleaning sticky which has borax in too. If you have a look in this section, I've just posted a topic about making soap using melt and pour soap base. All you do is colour it and fragrance it with a few drops of essential oil then pour it into moulds to set. I've just made a batch of lavender and tea tree soap with a few drops of green food colouring in and it smells lovely and clean! I don't think you can make liquid soap from it as it sets solid like bar soap but you can buy a liquid soap base from www.thesoapkitchen.co.uk which you can scent with your choice of oils. White vinegar is fantastic for cleaning your sink and taps as it removes any limescale. You can remove the furr from your kettle with it too by boiling some in the kettle with some water, leave it to sit for 15 minutes, rinse, boil, rinse and boil again. For the other things - ecover washing up liquid, tea tree and lavender oil, you can make the antiseptic spray I use on everything:- Put 25 drops tea tree and 25 drops lavender oil with 3 tbsp washing up liquid in a plant mister and top up with water. You can use this on anything such as toilet seats, wash basins, floors, banisters, foor handles, furniture.

Mrs Frugal
Mmmm bet that will be fab. Word of warning! Choose a plastic container to pour your soap into. I've stupidly used ceramic pate dishes and I can't get the soap out ! Doh !
kazaddress
i have used old yoghurt pots im tempted to leave a pieaces of string in them all so i can tie them all up in a bunch (rather then leaving them to get messy on the sink)

Guest
my brother used instant mash instead of coffee mate once. It set nicely in dad's mouth................ we did that on a Duke of Edinburgh camping expedition. we had walked for miles - top of Stickle Tarn I think - it was late at night - we got water from the lake and used the bluey to boil it - it takes ages - brewed some tea - and then added instant mash... not happy bunnies!!
