Tiggy
Sorr but if my boys are off colour I take them to the Doctor. Not for coughs, colds, sniffles Sorry to rant but I won't be made to feel like a bad mother for being over protective of my children. They are the most important things in the world to me and no risk (real or perceived) is worth taking. Jo I quite agree with you Jo, you sound sensible caring & protecive of you children, it is what I and my team are here for, but your first line says it all, off colour not coughs colds & sniffles, by the way we have a dragon lady too!! I do have to have a word from time to time
bronze
I'm quite lucky as when I go to the docs now they tend to take me seriously. I don't know if its written on my notes that I'm not faffy or neurotic but I've never once been fobbed off with 'its just a virus. I went to the docs a bit back with sinus pain and saw a locum. He was umming and ahhing saying we shouldn't prescribe unless it still hurts after a week blah de blah. I'm trying to point out its been hurting for two weeks and that I had left it for as long as possible to see if it would clear up. I think theyre used to people just going in straight away. Eventually he rang one of the other drs at the practise and explained. The reply came back who is the patient. He told them my name and seconds later he was writing a prescription. I dont know what the other doctor had said but I can only assume its because they know I dont bother them unless its bad.
Tiggy
spot on Bronze, but if GPs & nurses listen to their patients before making the decision its fairly easy, there are lots of guidelines about antibiotic prescribing to minimise the problems with resistent bugs, but when folks such as yourself pitch up we know that you have been trying to look after yourself for a while & now need help. Guest
A responsible mother knows when she needs to take children to the doctor. My GP once apologised to me saying he didn't want me to think that he was always prescribing antibiotics because he really didn't. It was just that I only took my children when I knew they needed help, so they always came away with antibiotics.
