cordelia
Hello.... Can anyone suggest an age when these pure breeds might lay ?? the two Rhode Islands are 20 weeks old this week...and have no combs (or very tiny ones...pink in colour) but I can see wattles coming..a tiny bit.. the Cream Legbar is in the same state but is 19 weeks old... I think we'll have to resign our selves with putting up signs..."NO EGGS YET" ...as everyone asks us.. thank you
Snowy
Could be a few more weeks yet for the RIR, longer for the legbar. Blue eggers seem to be later than others, especially this time of year!
cordelia
thanks for the reply......we'll just keep on waiting...
Maccbean
My two cream legbars are 27 weeks old and there is no sign that they will lay yet. As a pure breed, I've almost resigned myself to thinking they won't lay until next spring now (although of course I'm still living in hope ). cordelia
...oh my !!!! well very good luck and I hope they lay soon for you...and mine too !!! LOL I must tell everyone (family) they are unlikely to lay until next year, and then if they do...it will be a great suprise
ubereglu
I think that Molly my cream legbar was about 31 weeks when she first laid, but Spice my barnevelder waited until she was 35 weeks to lay her first egg.
Maccbean
So, as she was quite young in Autumn, perhaps she put off laying until Spring! Still, you never know, as ours are ready, they might surprise us with a in the the next couple of weeks (fingers crossed eh)
Maccbean
Yay it's happened, we got a today!!! Fandabeedozee So, at least one decided not to wait till Spring, so there's hope for the other, and the rest of yours toooo!!!! Good luck everyone

cordelia
oh im so plesaed you are happy with your newbies..I was a bit worried... no no eggs yet !! and yes they are lovely....I have twins and a sister...(rhodes and legbar) Henrietta (cream Legbar) had had a cold, and an awful squeak yesterday, but it seems to have gone today...and she is getting a tiny bit tamer....came to me, so i just had to give her some corn.. I'm sure we'll have eggs one day oh they met a hedgehog today, the first thing they were alittle afraid of...but then they all three hurried it out of the garden...poor mrs tiggywinkle
wombatally
oh im so plesaed you are happy with your newbies..I was a bit worried... They're lovely, thanks so much for the info. I suggested to the couple we got them from that they might want to contact omlet and add themselves as breeders on the list. There were loads weren't there! I went to get 2-3 and came back with 5! I'll get some pics on here soon!

helenmb
Cordelia I hope you get a soon, I'll be interested to hear when you do as I am collecting my new girls on Friday one if which is a Cream Legbar. I'll ask the guys at the farm how old they usually lay at and whether I can expect some this year. I think they will only be about 16 weeks old when I collect. Will let you know any info if I get anything useful.
