Adams Egg
The hens have finally picked up some lice, so have dusted them liberally with louse powder and DE, but am thinking that some Ivomectin would good to use. There appears to be two strengths now available on the web without prescription, 0.1% and 0.8%, the 0.8% being for pigeon sized birds. However would 0.1% be effective in treating the hens and therefore avoid egg withdrawl or is there any other product we can use, ( Johnsons anti mite? ) and any suppliers Thanks
Christian
I haven't used it myself but I know that Claret uses it for her chooks. I have used Johnson's anti lice/mite spray before though. Use in a well ventilated area as it stinks! This might help with egg withdrawal etc. Good luck.
helenmb
I bought Xeno 200 for £18.77 from http://www.vetuk.co.uk (you don't need a prescription and postage is free) which is an Ivermectin spray (I think Egluntine uses this too) but others use drops with various different trade names. Take a look at this thread to see if that helps Ivermectin drops 0.08%
mostin
I use Xeno 200 from vetscriptions.co.uk, again don't need a presciption. They also sell many other different ivermectin containing products such as xeno 450 etc (which is drops), but for the body weight of a chicken I think the xeno 200 spray is the most convenient and cost efficient. For a chicken you would have to use about 3 capsules of xeno 450, more if it was a brahma I assume.
Egluntyne
I use Xeno 200. it contains Ivermectin 0.02% w/w (200µg/ml) The strengths you mention might be too powerful, and ther is an egg withdrawal perion with Ivermectin, which is *not licensed for use on poultry in the UK. Adams Egg
Thanks, thats very useful. One more q, with sprays, do you apply them over then hen or have to get in amongst the base of the feathers?
mostin
I put it at the base of the feathers on the back of the head/neack where they can't reach it. Just where I try to put the frontline drops on the cats (in case you've ever done cats or dogs with flea drops).
