woffle
My wife and I took our two daughters (2 and 3.5 years old) down to Ripe in Sussex yesterday to buy a couple of chickens to add to our existing pair. They were so fantastic that I thought I'd share the recommendation if you're in and around Sussex and on the look-out for some POL. The lady who dealt with us was very patient with our little girls as they picked out the two new additions, took them to see the baby chicks under the heat lamps (only our eldest daughter was brave enough to stroke one) and then gave them both an apple whilst the adults bought some meat from the shop for Sunday dinner! All their birds are well looked after and seem to be in rude health, the farm is in an idyllic location and they couldn't have been more helpful. It's also nice that they also charge reasonable prices for their birds (£12), some local breeders are starting to ask silly prices, especially as the price of feed keeps rising... We came home with a Speckled Maran and an Amber hybrid - now named Maisy and Daisy. They're in their enclosure next to our existing hens and there hasn't been the noise and posturing I saw last time I did an introduction. Fingers crossed they settle down nicely. Gamebird
I quite agree Wofflie. I bought my girls from there last March. They were so helpful and I was impressed by how neat, tidy and clean everything was.
Gamebird
Oops! I meant to hit the preview button to check everything and pressed the submit button by mistake and realised I've made a typo in your name. Sorry
Kimbles
I agree too Woffle, I got my three girls there, 3 weeks ago and they were so helpful, especially as I am a real newbie. The lady didn't seem to mind my endless questions and clipped their wings for me. She looked up the dosage for cider vinegar and wrote it down for me and info about worming. Very helpful, and if I didn't have this lovely forum from which I have learnt everything I know about chickens, I would probably be ringing her up every week!! Gamebird
They are on Omlet's list already because that's how I found out about them. I was so pleased when I found out that they were only 20 minutes drive away from me.
