Redwing
When I set up my Eglu I had wood chips (not bark) and a layer of Aubiose on top, its all mixed in together now but the combination is smashing, the Aubiose soaks up any runny poos a treat. I put a couple of handfuls of Aubiose in a container every couple of days and sprinkle it through the mesh of the run to dust over the surface and cover any poos that haven't already been dug in by the girls! (I do this when the girls have gone to bed) I plan to use this combination long term as its proving really sucessful. I rake over the bits I can reach daily but the rest doesnt smell at all (only 10 days in mind) and seems dry (the run is covered which helps) This weekend I plan to take the cover off the Eglu and get the rake in from the other end while I am doing my big clean. A cover over the run really helps as does the fact that I got chippings instead of bark - I have bark by my shed and that is much more spongy and moist in comparison. chickencam
We have had ours on a thick layer of bark for 18 months withour any problems. We change the top layer once a month or so and give it a dig over if it gets compacted. They dig deep holes all day and find worms etc so they seem happy.
