Patricia7455
Hi, Aaron I haven't got chickens myself, but am planning for the future and I went to an Omlet hen party. Our hostess used garlic powder mixed in with the daily food to stop the poos smelling. She used mash to feed the chickens and I suppose the garlic would mix better with the mash than with pellets. We watched her cleaning her eglu and I have to say that I could not smell any poo-ey smell from the eglu, the run or anywhere in her garden although there were a few poos unavoidably dotted around. Strange, that the garlic powder smells strong itself, but stops poos smelling, but it seems to work Hope this helps Pat
jomaxsmith
Hi there, Garlic powder works well and can be easily bought from equine supplies shops. I 've even found it in Pets At Home! I put a scoop in with each grub full of mash (about a tablespoon). Bokashi Bran is also very good but is quite pricey. Wiggly Wigglers is often the cheapest place to buy it. I put about a handful in each time I fill the Grub. Using a good absorbent bedding in the eglu and run will also help, Hemcore and Aubiose are good and I'm using Easibed at the moment and that works really well too. Redwing
Me too! Bokashi bran and garlic powder, I can't smell anything from the run at all and only smell the Eglu when I take the eggport door off, even the droppings tray doesn't smell. Mind you only one of mine is laying - apparently they ramp up the eating when they are laying so maybe I have the bad smells to come!! miffy
oooohhhh dear I've been putting garlic powder in the glug is this wrong??
Ain't Nobody Here
I think it's ok to put it in the glug but doesn't it tend to sink to the bottom? That's why I changed to adding it to the pellets (that does work, btw, it coats all the pellets). I use garlic powder & bokashi bran in their feed and Stalosan F in the run after a clean out.
