chrisnrob
Hello We've been invited to a Halloween Fancy Dress party on Friday 31st October. It's fancy dress and there's a pumpkin carving competition - sounds fun! The only thing is, we're not sure what to do about the fancy dress. We don't want to go and spend £50 each hiring a costume but we're a bit stuck on what we can easily make ourselves I thought that you lot might have some good ideas I don't think we'll beat the simplicity of our costumes a few years back when we went to a "Best of British" themed party. We just dressed normally and carried a tin of mushy peas round with us. When anyone asked what we were supposed to be we said that we'd come as "Faggots and peas"! lisa33
I am going to my first halloween fancy dress party since I was a little girl. I am going as Old Gregg from the Mighty Boosh. I have got most of my costume from Charity Shops and have just got to teach myself to sew in 7 days (going to Amsterdam for the weekend so nothing will be done them, ) so that I can make a pink tutu. Can you get some really awful dresses and rip them up a bit, some horror makeup and you could be 'Frocky Horror'. Sorry really rubbish but very cheap. Suggesting using old sheets as ghost costume sounds really unimaginative now

The joke may not make sense outside the area. How about one of those hooded cloaks and go as Dementors from Harry Potter. Not too pricy, I'm sure. Hennubi
Love the 'Faggots and Peas' costume idea We had a 'Sound of Music' themed party where a couple came in green towels cut and worn like ponchos with little cut out sheep and goats stuck on them.... They were "the Hills are alive" I love fancy dress and costume parties - often go and raid charity shops for costume creations.. dont forget things like old lamp shades, paper and glue and tinsel can all make brilliant hats/costumes/monster tenticles etc etc as well as making masks at home.. We bought a bunch of blank masks when we were in Venice and are now painting these for halloween, but we dont normally do some thing so formal.. Of course giong as something chicken related should get extra points! Have a fab Party!!
Bassett
Poundland and Wilkinsons have some very cheap costumes. I bought a hat with wig, cape and mask for £3.
little jerry
Hi, Thinking of the Mighty Boosh theme, go as Howard and Vince. Costumes should be easy enough. Bit of sparklly and bit of dull. Probablly done to death this year year but cant help liking it.
chickencam
Love the 'faggots and peas' There are loads of cheap masks around in the supermarkets, Poundland etc, teamed up with a blanket as a cloak or an old black coat would be great. stoice
Some friends of mine dressed up as a nightmare. ie: One wore black with a moon and stars all over him (Night) the other was a horse. (Mare) They looked great, would've been better if the party was in Elm Street!
chrisnrob
I'm loving some of these ideas Chris bought a job-lot of different face paints the other day and I think he's going as a skeleton - white head and face with black eyes/eye sockets. I think I'm going as a zombie!! The party is close enough to walk to so that should be fun Rob
Cooks
I like the zombie idea, how about distressing/dirtying up some bandages and wrapping them round you like a mummyfied zombie...
craftyhunnypie
Hubby wore a full face wizard mask last year, with long white hair - it was only cheap. I'd already got an old purple velvet witch hat, so he wore that. I made a hole in an old velvet curtain for his poncho type cloak. Then he carried a solar light for his wand. Looked like the wizard from Lord of the Rings & he won! Dead cheap outfit! Another year he went as Frankensteins monster. Hows about Quozzy Modo & Esmerelda?
