Gordon Ramsay cook along Fri 24 Oct

Recommended Posts

:D:D

Hello all!

Is anyone else having a go at the Gordon Ramsay cook along? The main course is Salmon en croute, and hubby doesn't eat salmon.. is there anything else that will cook in the same time that will go nicely en croute?

He eats other fish and loves meat.

Thought I would ask before I go and pick up the ingredients (and there are lots!) from the supermarket.

Thanks :lol::lol:

I should have thought that any fish of a similar thickness would work as long it is a fairly firm fleshed fish. How about monkfish? I'm sure you could use meat too, but cooking time might be longer. Probably depends on the thickness of the cut of meat. Beef Wellington, for example, is cooked in pastry so not so different maybe?

Why doesn't he eat salmon BTW?

I won't be doing it this week. We are going veggie for a week to help DS with his homework. It has been surprisingly successful and DD has anounced that she wishes to do it full time! Also, I cannot stand goats' cheese and I am not sure whether I can get hold of any rhubarb!! Maybe another time. Enjoy it though!

Found this in the FAQ for the cookalong:

We’re not keen on salmon, is there another fish that we could use instead?

This recipe is particularly delicious made with salmon, but you could try using another skinless thick fish fillet instead. Cod, pollock or hake would make reasonable alternatives, but look out for the Marine Stewardship Council label before you buy – it will indicate that the fish has been sustainably caught.

Aim for the same weight, but be prepared to use smaller fillets arranged closely together on the pastry rather than one large fillet. Pat dry with kitchen paper before using to soak up as much moisture as possible. By using white fish fillet, the parcel could lack colour, so try spreading with a couple of tablespoons of sun-dried tomato paste instead of the mustard.

Was checking out the cookalong website and saw the ingredients list included a tin of baked beans...can't for the life of me work out what the beans are for!!!

Hi all :D

Thanks for that :0) Hubby was in the bad books for five minutes last night when we realised at 9.45pm that he had not switched the sky box on to record it for tonight, when he said it was on

He went online and it said that the show is repeated tonight at eight, so that got him off the hook!

OH doesn't like salmon because of the taste  and didn't eat fish at all until he met my family (still trying to feed him shellfish but he won't have it!).

I must say I agree with the fact that the menu is a bit pants, seems like not much thought has been put into it, but I'll have a go all the same  apparently the last one he did was really complicated so they've probably tried to make it simpler.

If anyone tried it last night, how did you get on??

Me and my mum watched it for a bit. We were in the living room as we don't have a TV in our kitchen!! :D we both came to the conclusion that A - it didn't look to great, and B - if we were trying to do it too then we would both get very left behind lol!!

I agree! I consider myself a fairly competent cook, but I don't think I could have kept up! Why does he have to do it so fast? I know it's probably good telly but it is more likely to leave those taking part feeling inadequate than to help them learn to cook a good meal!
