one egg or two?

Recommended Posts

It is one a day, and the 25 hour cycle is correct. However they do occasionally have a hormonal surge and ovulate twice in one day, so they do lay twice in one day. It's not common though, and the second egg is usually soft shelled as it hasn't been inside the shell gland long enough :D

The closest one of my girls came was an egg first thing in the morning and a softie with no shell in the evening. I don't think it counts does it? It was a long summer day so the daylight hours were longer too. she didn't anything the next day either.

Oh, yes, er, just as Snowy has written.

thank you all for your replies. I have now told uncle john i was right :D lol. He is just a bit excited about us getting chickens in the spring, especially when my husband told him we would make the run a bit bigger and hen house so that he could keep a couple of hens there himself :) .

The day I first got my hens (exbats) They laid 4 between them! This was between 8am and 6pm whilst I was at work. All had normal shells but one had been broken - it got laid in the doorway of the eglu so think they trod on it. The shell that was left was normal as far as I could tell. I was quite surprised but they have not repeated it so far!
