leopardstar
I've never heard of feeding tuna to chickens, is it tinned tuna just straight out of a tin??? Is is supposed to be good for them?
chelsea
its good for chickens who are moulting. I give them tuna in water (on the tin) and then rinse it again under the tap. I dont give them much or daily, just every now and then when mine are moulting.
HENthusiastic
I give it to mine when they are moulting, or ill. I mix it in with pellet porridge. They love it. I give tinned tuna in spring water. I just drain it and then mix it in.
TheCoop
Yep - tuna in spring water is the best way to go. Lots of protein and nutrients to help them over the moult. I give it to them for a treat every now and again, but not regularly.
Palmer06
I haven`t tried it yet! I am going to see if they like it over the weekend when i can spend some time with them! But from wat i have read all chickens seem to love it. I am hoping it will be as funny as the first time i gave them wet mash! They jsut went mad. Louisdog
I give mine sardines occasionally as a treat, I heard they were better as they have fish oils (omega 3 maybe?) which tuna does not. It;'s cheaper too, mine love Tesco Value tuna in tomato sauce, 17p

Egluntyne
Don't forget to buy the dolphin friendly sort that is caught with rods and lines as opposed to nets.

Is is supposed to be good for them? I feed my chickens tuna sometimes. I don't know if it's good for them but they do love it!! You have to feed them the cans that say ' In Spring Water ' because brine is to salty.
GreenGirl
mine love it too, i mix a tin of rinsed, spring water tuna with some bio yoghurt and some bokashi, and they go mad for it
jools+6
what about tuna in olive oil ?? is that ok or do you have to rinse it ? or even sunflower oil , though i prefer the tuna in olive oil ....
Louisdog
I have given it in oil before but only if mixing with something else e.g. layers pellets, or leftover rice or pasta, to dilute the oil, and they seemed fine.
helenmb
In oil is fine if you squeeze out the oil (I use the lid to push the tuna down and the oil out). They really love it, I also only use it when I want them to have extra protein during moulting. The eggs don't taste fishy by the way in case you wondered.
