Has anyone jetwashed woodchip??

Recommended Posts

Thinking I might give it a go.

It has been down for a month now (time flies when you have chickens!) and its starting to pong a bit :? I've raked it over a few times and thought about replacing it but think maybe I should try and clean it first??

Was planning on moving the eglu and run onto the lawn for a day while I give it a good blast with the pressure wash and let it dry/drain through.

What do you think?

Sarah

Hi

I have jet washed woodchip, I put it in a pile and use the lowest setting to stop it flying everywhere and I just keep turning it over until I am satisfied that it is clean enough.

I tend to jetwash weekly and change some of it monthly.

There is probably not much difference betwen chunky bark and woodchip?

I have just jet washed mine and it looks ok, though it would probably have been easier to replace it

Why not try washing a handful of your bark chip in a bucket then leave it out and see what happens, it will give you an idea how long it takes to dry without soaking the whole run. I would probably just use a hose pipe next time I do it because the jet wash did blast it about a bit, even on a low setting.

PS just realised where you are-hello down there :D

hello :D

It's only been down since start of October, but it's looking a bit muddy and gunky, doesn't smell particularly though. Think it looks worse cos the ground's getting a bit soggy and muddy under it, eventhough the run is covered.

I'll have a think about it, see weather the sun decided to shine on Sunday.

I just cover mine with a thin layer of Aubiose which then gets dug in and absorbs the worst of the damp and smells.

I do this once a week. I get the ladies in the Eglu and shut the door then I line up the Aubiose up along the top of the run and brush it with my hand so that it falls through the mesh.

:vom: When you get in there with a rake its amazing what you find :vom:

I jetwashed mine yesterday and it looks fab now, would do it again, will try just hose pipe next time because the jet wash tends to make everything else filthy ie lovely clean chicken run but the shed behind it looks like a mud hut
