Paola
e*"]I have still not got over what I paid today to have my hair cut and coloured. £122 That is what I usually pay. Anything from £100 - £150. Having said that I usually go about every 12 weeks. OH is worse then I am. He has a new colour and cut everytime. I never know what will be coming home to me He has been blonde, black, blue, red (not all the same time ) to name a few

Guest
actually, thinking about this as I put out the bins - this kind of discussion says a lot about us as people. many things can be described on one level as simply functional... we have a haircut or else it gets too long we buy a car so we can get from A to B we have a kitchen so we can cook stuff to eat we have a bathroom so we can get clean BUT - most of us choose a subset of these things (and other things) to be more than just functional - we use them to prove/enhance our self-worth in some way. They are invested with emotional significance. a haircut becomes - a treat, a symbol that you are "worth it" (the advert hits a core truth - and as such is very clever) - it's a symbol of self esteem a car becomes a status symbol - proof of what you earn and therefore by extension - what you are worth?? (and also an extension of something else in the case of men, I'm told..) a kitchen and bathroom can become very much like the car - proof of our status/spending power/class - or very much like the haircut - my space for pampering - a treat... I want that wet room because I'm worth it. it doesn't divide up easily male-female - but most of us choose something that others view as merely "functional" and invest it with a whole lot more meaning. it's not right or wrong - it's just how we are for me... errr... it's not hair or cars or house-stuff - it's probably tools! Power tools!! drills are not just a functional item for drilling a hole - they are expressions of raw power - and the more powerful the better (even if it does mean drilling right through into next door!) I buy them because I'm worth it! The chainsaw is the ultimate - I'd use it to cut my toenails if the missus would let me! not really sure where that came from - doing the bins is a philosophical adventure for me!
