Facebook Virus

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

This may have already been posted but.........

I have just had a load of fun removing a virus from Couperwifes laptop.

It spreads via Facebook using a video link from a friend when you click on the link it says you need to update flash. Choosing to do this installs the virus and various other nasty little payloads include a backdoor trojan and it screws up internetability considerably.

I had an email supposedly from couperwife saying attached was a youtube vid with me in it! Sounded dodgy so I deleted it! Could it be related? :?

Yes that's the very fellow. It pays to be a Wise Owl Snowy 8)

I have sent Cathy to the 'naughty' step. An IT teacher too the very shame of it.

I am so glad I ditched Windows.

I got the same. Said there was "spy camera" footage of me on the web. As I live all the way here in the US and haven't been to the UK recently, I knew it was phony.

I found this information on facebook regarding common spam practices.

Postcard Spam

If a friend sends you a message or posts on your Wall with a link to a postcard for you to open, don't click on it. Chances are it's a virus that may cause your Facebook account to become compromised. If you do click on one of these links, run a virus scan and reset your Facebook password immediately.

Nigerian or 419 Scams

Be wary of messages from friends or strangers who claim to be stranded somewhere and are asking for money. This is a common scam used across the Internet, but it's easy to avoid. If it's a friend who's contacted you, chances are the person's account has been compromised, and you should let him/her know. If it's a stranger, report the message to Facebook immediately, and we'll take appropriate action.

Fake Emails

We've received reports of fake emails that look like they came from Facebook. These emails include false notifications for friend requests and messages. They often link to phishing sites or include attachments with viruses. Never click on links in suspicious emails, and remember that real Facebook notifications don't include attachments.

The Koobface Worm

We're currently helping our users with the recently discovered "Koobface" worm and phishing sites. If your account has recently been used to send spam, please visit one of the online antivirus scanners from the Helpful Links list, and reset your password here.

False Chain Letter

Recently, some users received a message claiming that Facebook is becoming overpopulated and suggesting that accounts will be deleted. This message is false and did not come from Mark Zuckerberg or Facebook. It can be safely disregarded and deleted.

Yep I got the email too and deleted it - I did mean to email you Cathy to ask about it as it seemed a but suss - I was surprised that you had time to be fiddling around with videos - this has been a LOOOOONg term and I'm sure that you are as up to your ears in coursework and year 11 as I am! Also unlike me, you have a life!

I too would be very :oops::oops:

Still you can use it in a lesson now!

I got that message too, but I deleted it...it just didn't "feel" right for me, and I'm terminally cautious about what I open on any website.

No worries Cathy :D .

I still love Facebook....best way I know of keeping in touch with my friends all over the globe 8)

Sorry to be disagreeing with you on this one Egluntine, but horses for courses eh....and you never know until you've tried it :D
