RisingForce
Hi, I'd like to draw your attention to a little known hen sanctuary in East Sussex. You are like minded people, so please consider helping Linda with whatever you can. Every penny makes a difference and every penny will be spent on the animals. I know it's Christmas coming up but maybe you can spare a small amount. She also sells a calendar and Christmas cards. She founded the sanctuary and basically runs it by herself, with the occasional help of a couple of people, but she's struggling. I've never seen dedication like this in my life. She lives for her hundreds of hens, few cockerels and 60 something turkeys. She runs this place at a price of huge personal sacrifices. You can visit her website here www.henheaven.org. It was created by some helpful people, she doesn't even have a computer. Thank you, Gabriella
Karen & co.
I was looking at her website the other day My friends sister has been vegan for years and now buys her eggs from here as she thinks it is such a good place, she has started to eat eggs again! Snowy
It looks a lovely place. The video on the site is great - hundreds of chickens, and they all look in wonderful condition. Real hen heaven!

bigmommasally
The hens do look very happy to be free, and I love the turkeys. One thing that Linda said on the video though has worried me, it was that "dry mash causes respiratory problems" in chickens, does anyone know if that is correct? Egluntyne
Never heard that one before....and if you eat eggs, you are not a vegan. It looks a fascinating place. is it a registered charity?
Guest
I hope you all noticed that it is in Henfield - how appropriate!
RisingForce
Hi all, I don't know if it's a registered charity, I should have asked really, and it's been on my mind for a while but I always forget. I'll see her on Thursday, though, so that will be a good time to ask. Her address is on the website and I got it wrong, it's not East but West Sussex, not that it makes much difference. You MUST call her on her mobile before you visit as she has her preferred times and also, you'll never find the place without her instructions. I regard myself lucky enough to volunteer whenever I can find some time. The hens are just so adorable, as soon as you stop they surround you and start pecking at your trousers or wellies. And they can go on and on and on... And the turkeys, they are crazy about your watch or anything shiny and they are just so calm, they happily sit on your lap and let you hug them. I do envy her. Chook n Boo Mum
Was that a yellow eglu I saw in the video, towards the end? Could just be that I'm obsessed by the lovely little houses that most of us have in common ?! What a wonderful lady. Sha x

RisingForce
I asked Linda today, and unfortunately it's not a registered charity. Apparently it would mean a lot of paperwork and she doesn't have the time and energy. She's too tired each day having spent all day, 7 days a week looking after the girls (and boys). It's highly unlikely that it's an eglu in the video, by the way. Thank you for all your interest!
mostin
A very good video, it's wonderful there are people like that in this world.
