seagullukuk
Blast blast and blast again. I delayed closing the eglu run door at dusk tonight and to my horror Mr. Fox came and decapitated my darling chuckles. The squak of poor chuckles was only brief the cry of the kids lasted much longer and went all the way to Ireland where half the children live!! I was talking to them on the phone when tradgedy struck!! It is so sad poor bubbles is now all alone I need a friend for her ASAP. Is winter a difficult time to find a friend for bubbles? Please advise me.
Minnie the Moocher
Shame. Poor bubbles will be lonely. I'm sure you should be able to find another chook even at this time of year. Why not get two? Then if something like this happens again you won't be left with a singleton. Best of luck in your search.
Sheilaz
R.I.P. Chuckles. Happens so quickly & easily done, so sorry to hear your news. Yes, a good way forward for you all, including Bubbles, might be to get a couple of newbies ASAP. Best wishes, it must have been an awful shock. helenmb
How terrible for you . Only recently have we started to hear the call of a fox - first time we have ever heard one in our neighbourhood in the 3 years we have been keeping hens. Have now bought a FoxWatch to assist. I am sure you will be able to find Bubbles a new friend but I too would suggest you get 3 as there is plenty of space in the Eglu for 3. seagullukuk
Thanks for the kind wishes. I am sure you are right and i will get two new friends. Do fox watches really work? I may invest in one of those too!
helenmb
Do fox watches really work? I may invest in one of those too! They seem to have quite a good name on the forum but everyone says that it should be just an assistance to preventing them as it can't be guarenteed. Here is some info about them. I just bought one on an auction on ebay for a really good price so worth trying to shop around a bit as they are quite pricey.
Janty
I have pm'd you about a possible breeder for some new girls. Jan
Minnie the Moocher
The fox doesn't come near now we have a dog again. Every once in a while I leave a few of his 'doings' at the back of a deep flower border (so they can't be stepped in) right on the boundary fence where foxy might launch an attack in the hope that the smell might be offputting. Well, I find the smell offputting so I'm guessing that foxy feels the same.
Olly
So sorry to hear that. Haven't used them myself, but Hens4Homes have been recommended to me before, and they are not too far away. They have got POL hens in stock.

seagullukuk
Hi every one. Thanks for all the support. You will be pleased to know that Bubbles now has two new friends. I say friends but the pecking order sorting is tough to watch!!! I bought two hens who are twice the size of bubbles and know each other well so poor bubbles now has company that dominates her. I trust all the people that say the pecking order has to be sorted naturally just hope it is sorted quickly!! Will keep you all posted re progress and when I have eggs again!! Thanks again every one
