Palmer06
Hi, I am after some help quite quick! I Have just came back after 4days away with work to find one of my silkies not eating and looking very under the weather! The OH ensures me that they have all been fine and carrying on as normal! She was eating before i went away and was always full! But now she is empty, skinny to touch and her feathers look a mess! She will eat live meal worms but doesn`t seem interseted in anything else! They always have pellets and wiggly`s mash 24/7? Please help as i have lost one this year! Thankyou! p.s Here is a couple of pics so you can see what i mean! (she has never puffed out before!) Egluntyne
Oh dear. Poor thing. Do they free range? Has she been wormed? If not, I'd be inclined to do that straight away if they do range outside. I'd check her over for lice and the coop for mites too. Is she drinking? I'd encourage her to take water, even if you have to syringe it into her beak. "Wet" food such as quartered grapes may tempt her and get fluid into her. How about mixing her pellets with warm water to make a sloppy "porridge"? She might take that too, with added avipro if you have some, or probiotic yoghurt. I would also bring her in and keep her warm so that she doesn't expend valuable energy trying to maintain her body temperature. I'd be inclined to take her to the vet if she were mine as she does look poorly.

I have also check her, the others and the coop for All things small and nasty! I will now try giving her water if i can find a syringe. I will bring her in now to help her! Thankyou Egluntine i knew i could count on you for help! I will keep you udated!

Palmer06
Thankyou everyone! They were all wormed couple of weeks ago so i don`t think its that. I managed to get her to eat some very wet food and you could feel it in her crop. I will let you know how she is in the morn! Night!
SAB
Grapefruit seed oil in her water may help as it fights all sorts of nasties (in humans too) - you should be able to get from health shop. Check her eyes too - they look fine in picture, but when I had silkie who was under the weather they got sticky eyes too, which benefited from bathing with tea (made as usual and left to cool). Good luck with her.

Egluntyne
Is she wheezy at all? Can you hear a rattly chest when you lift her up and place your ear to her back? I think I'd ask a vet to look at her tomorrow as she doesn't seem to be improving.
Palmer06
I was going to today but i couldn`t find a chicken ready vets! Our vet isn`t the greatest unless its a cat or dog! Janty
We use Haven vets at Yarmouth. They are lovely. I have pm'd you about syringes for getting fluids and food into your poorly girl. I only have small ones that I got from the vets for my pekin but you are welcome to them. Hubby and I are off to Gt. Yarmouth Tescos in a few minutes and I will take them with me. I have sent you my phone number and I could drop them off to you on the way home if you call me. Best wishes, Jan
