Another shop bites the dust..... :(

I know its not nice to predict which high street shops will be next but I think that WH Smith might be a real shocker- the high street shops will close but the airport/railway station shops will remain....(i'm Mystic Meg in disguise! )

Also Past Times...is past it in my opinion.

And Cargo - that homeware store...

Apologies to anyone who works in those shops, I hope I'm wrong...

I was talking to OH this morning about Festival Place and his opinion is that they need to lower the rent. Nothing seems to last, apart from the biggies like topshop etc :?

I haven't been to Festival Place in years but all large shopping centres should lower their rents - after all, if the shops fail the centres will too. No use in being short sighted, the rents have always been so high that smaller shops don't get a look in.

Another of our local grocery shops is closing in the new year - going to be another block of flats even though the ones built on the site of the old post office on the opposite haven't all sold yet. Far too much greed :(

Just seen that Zavvi has gone into administration too............

Yup, and have just read on the BBC news website any vouchers you have they won't redeem them. And I have about £30 worth which I was going to spend yesterday, but because the shop was so busy I just walked back out. Kicking myself now :(

I think Homebase are part of Argos as the websites have exactly the same items and look the same too. I hope Cargo doesn't go under as they are the only reasonably priced homeware shop here that we don't have to drive to, and as I don't drive, it's very useful for me. I didn't know The Pier went down. That is sad as they had loverly things. I wouldn't mind if BHS went (sorry to anyone who works there). Our shop is appalling and it would be nice to have something better in it's place.

I wonder if Adams the childrens clothes shop is in trouble - they have 70% off today! I wonder about BHS too, as they can be a bit old fashioned in the clothing department. It all depends on who owns them to be honest.

Wonder what will become of our high streets & shopping centres?

Just read on BBC News that Adams will go into administration next week. What a sad state this country is in

Aren't they the same company, so if one goes the other will too I'd have thought?

Yeah theyr owned by the same people - something in the paper today (observer/The times i think) that said they had recorded a record slump (I think it might have been -40-something on last year  )
