how many chickens can i keep in my Cube

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have an eglu CUBE with 3 extensions (the standard one plus and extra two). I Currently have three pekin bantams in it - the fourth one died on Christmas Eve. I am thinking of increasing my flock to include two chickens that will lay eggs throughout the year, as the bantams have not layed for several months now. Would it be OK to keep 5 chickens in the Cube given the number of extention that I have?.

I hope that I have posted this in the correct section, if not, I apologize and wish you all a Happy New Year.

Thanks

Ali

I had seven in the cube with the same amount of extentions that you have and four of those were large breeds so you should be fine.

Did they have free range time too Janty or mainly kept in the run?

I have to confess that mine are out all day very nearly every day but if I have to keep them in for any reason such as builders, etc, I sort them as follows :

Cube 1 with run plus two extentions : 2 brahmas, 2 cochins, 1 brahma miniature, 1 hybrid (one of the ex-batts used to stay with them until she died - that was the 7th)

Cube 2 with run plus two extentions : 5 hybrids

Eglu with converter and extention : 5 pekins, 1 Orp miniature, 2 RIR miniatures
