Hi Ruby.

Mayo again.

Would love to be able to give a secret that will make something love you overnight.

If I knew that, I'd not be freezing in Surrey; more likely would be me on a Very large yacht near the Bahamas.

The sad truth is that it's going to take time, and lots of it; and lots of patience.

Just between you and me, you could try not feeding them for several hours past their usual time.

Most animals are slightly reluctant to starve themselves to death, and they will certainly be more inclined to approach you if they are hungry.

But this is no substitute for sitting/laying down near them - maybe reading a book - for a Long time (not the ideal season for any of this), with their favourite food Very close to you and waiting quietly. Once they've eaten near you once, then you will have to repeat the procedure lots and LOTS of times - eventually they will realise that you are not a threat; and Only Then can you start to encourage them to actually become friends with you.

It is going to be a long journey. Certainly many weeks; maybe many months. Be calm and patient, and I Promise that you will be successful in the end.

Happy New Year.

Mayo.

(PM me if you get desperate; but you may have to be patient before you get a reply, 'cos I'm not here that often - It'll be good practice for you !!)

(By the way; they're almost certainly not on hunger strike, and almost certainly they don't hate you; they're just relatively small animals being Very wary of a relatively large animal - that, for millenia, is how we all managed to survive !!)
