freespiritbutterfly
Hi Happy new year to everyone. As its so cold outside i would like to make my girlies some porridge to warm them up a bit. However the thing is im not sure on how to make it. Is it the same as normal porridge or is there some special way i would need to make it up for my girlies??? Thanks in advance for any help Emma
poachedegg
I think some people do make theirs with oats, however some, like me, simply add warm water to the pellets, I then also add some garlic powder, bokashi bran, crushed egg shells and then some greens chopped up. What you add to your warm water and pellets is really your choice.
Omletina Kyckling
I do exactly what Poachedegg says - pellets, warm water plus other goodies - sometimes some raisins which they love. It's also a great way to get Poultry Spice, limestone flour or garlic powder into them....
Kirstine
I pour boiling water over porridge oats, stir and leave to go cool enough for tender beaks. By that time the oats have swollen up and started to go glutinous. As a real treat, frozen peas can also be added prior to the water. I hadn't thought of raisins. Scramble
I do the same as Kirstine, I pour boliling water oer porridge oats and leave it to cool I normally sprinkle raisins over the top of it and leave it at that poachedegg's method sounds very a lot better than mine though... C&T
I use half and half porridge oats and layers mash, and then add all sorts of things, depending what is around at the time! Dried mealworms, peas and sweetcorn are all favourites, and so are chopped up pecan nuts... They poke around in the porridge for their favourate bits, in case the other one gets the good bits first, and then they eat the rest. Also add garlic, bran etc etc. Also excellant way to get worming powder into mine as well. They love it! Incidentally, mine like mash, instead of pellets. So when they have picked out all their favourite bits of the dry mash out of their grub, I use the remainder to make porridge with. This way I am happy they are getting all the goodness that they should be from the mash, and not missing out on anything...

LittleBoPeep
I use porridge oats with boiling water, leave it to thicken and then add sweetcorn, greens etc. At the moment I am also adding poultry spice to give chooks a bit of a lift and they love it. Mutrix Farmers
Pellets, crushed egg shell, bokashi bran and Poultry Spice mixed with warm water. Sometimes I add linseed or sesame seeds for a bit of extra omega 3. I also make up a porridge with oats and soup mix (split peas and pearl barley from the health food shop) but this is a treat rather than real food. helenmb
I use Bio-yoghurt that I make and add in a bit of cold water on a normal day and hot water on a cold day, mixed with Layers Mash/Meal, bokashi bran sometimes, any human porridge that is left over and any small bits kicking around I have ie sweetcorn, peas etc. However, the main constituent is the layers mash. All of this is mixed to a consistency that resembles crumbly sand. They fall over each other as I walk down past their run in the morning to be the first to have some, as I have 7 girlies I split it into two large 'dog type' bowls so it doesn't get trampled in or knocked over in their eagerness .
