Two meals for £5!

Recommended Posts

Thank you Dodge.

I try my best to control what I eat. We only eat free range eggs & don't eat chicken at all now. We could if we wanted eat free range chicken - but we are put off by us keeping our own chickens. I do like the taste, but just can't face it. Everyone I know knows this & gives us turkey instead.

We still eat beef, pork, turkey & lamb. Mainly because we don't keep these in our back garden, where we could look at them everyday - then say ' oh you're having Fred for tea tonight'.

I know there are free range turkeys & pigs. But because we don't keep them, we would rather not know where a lot of our food comes from - or else we'd eat nothing! Even fruit & veg are sprayed with allsorts unless organic. I don't think all vegetarians eat organic all the time do they?

I think there are 2 types of people on this forum. Chicken keepers who love their chickens & try their best to choose free range eggs & control things where they can ( in their own homes), but still enjoy pub meals & make sensible choices to suit them. Then there are the totally 'green' ethical and sometimes over the top people.

I will listen to both sides of a discussion or debate - but sometimes can't do right for doing wrong. Hope you understand my views. A forum is a place to hear both sides & I do hope that posts are not removed - as this would be biased towards one side of the discussion.

Thank you - Phew!

Dodge, none of us were 'ramming' any ethics down any throats - this forum is far more tolerant than that :) - we were merely expressing our personal opinions where food is concerned. None of us can afford to always eat ethically either, which is why we prefer to eat veggie when we eat out and are unsure of the provenance of the meat. The opinion expressed by several of us was mainly along the lines that we were sad to see only one veggie option on the menu.

I often post such offers on the forum myself and don't restrict them to only ethical restaurants - it's free for all and if people don't want to partake of the offer then that is their choice. There are relatively few of us on the forum who choose to eat ethically, and I think that if you met any of us, you'd be hard pressed to detect any 'militancy' we never mention it, nor ram our beliefs down anyone's throat.

I am saddened that you see it that way.

for as many that are "feeling guilty" (which wasn't my intention) or those that are "sick of having food ethics rammed down their throat" (which I don't think I was doing, sorry that you feel that way) there as many that would probably welcome the information.

I'm always grateful when someone points these things out to me so I'd appreciate it if I didn't get attacked when I do, I wasn't attacking anyone else :?

If you're grateful for the info from either side then say so but stop villifying me, it's upsetting.

Poet, I don't think that Dodge was getting at you in particular - it was just a general comment.

I'd just like to say that we appreciate all the offers that get posted on the forum, please keep posting. :D I'd also like to say thanks when members post about hidden eggs, some members will find that reminder useful. :D

There's room for all views and differing opinions, that's what's great about the Omlet forum:D

noone was criticisng you emma, I wish people would stop getting personal. There aren't 2 types of people and I wouldn't consider myself "over the top". That's if you're referring to me which I suspect you are.

I do the best I can given the options on the shelves, just like anyone else. I haven't levelled any criticism at anyone (as far as I am aware) just imparted some info :?

I wasn't getting at anyone - just merely stating that things get over heated on here & it does my head in.

Yes lets drop it now.

The post is 2 meals for £5. Excellent value, excellent food, very good portions & nice decor in the pubs. The one we went to ' The Potters Wheel' had a great warm atmosphere & we will be going again.

Here are all the ones listed for Liverpool http://www.sizzlingpubs.co.uk/nationalsearch/searchresults/

Have fun & enjoy!

Is it Toby Inn or Toby carvery? Because Toby carveries are excellent fabulous food.

Emma, I was just going to post how good our local new Toby carvery is. All the food is prepared and cooked on site (think a couple of the puds might not be) I'm amazed it's not busier but I don't think people realsie it's there!

TBH Emma, I'm not sure as I don't usually go out that way - I'll have another look. I shan't be eating there though as their menu isn't to my taste.

It's part of a new development up by the motorway; they've dropped in a Travel Inn, a Ben and Jerrys or whatever that place is called and one of these Toby places - they're all plasticy and totally out of keeping with the local buildings which are mostly Cotswold stone - has caused quite a rumpus locally

That does surprise me. Toby Carveries are usually great! They do a really nice veggie alternative to the meat roasts, and (in general) don't overdo their veg i.e. the broccoli is actually crisp! If there is a voucher, I'm there!

Have you got the link, Claret? :D

Sorry, I haven't got the email any more - deleted it then I empty my delete box at the end of each day.

The only one on the email I was interested in was the Pizza Express one and I'd already done that - next time I get one, I will forward it to you, but you might be able to google for it. There are often vouchers for them in the Daily Mail - if I see one, I'll cut it out for you.

Not my sort of place I'm afraid - they don't make their food on site, so it's all re-heated, they have no idea of the provenance of what they are serving and only have one, rather sad veggie alternative. :( Banbury has lots of other lovely restaurants, so we eat at ones we're happy with, althoguh I'm sticking to places with deals IF we go out.

Edit: Here's the latest MSE list of restaurant deals: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/cheap-restaurant-deals
