badgerbluebadger
I currently have a with two girls in which I got in October. I want to know how many hens can you keep in a with a normal run as I would love to get some ex bats. Both my husband and I work full time so the girls only get to free range in the winter at the weekend. In the spring when it gets lighter in the evenings I will be able to get them out when I get home from work. My garden is small but the girls we currently have a lovely time. Please let me know your thoughts!
Redwing
I have four hens in an Eglu run with the converter on the end which adds another metre, its perfectly sufficient for them but if they are to spend a lot of time inside it would be worth adding an extension to make a total of four metres but then its gets trickier to clean out I guess ex battery hens may be less mobile initially so could live in a smaller area for a short while I would not put more than two chickens in the standard run personally but I know people do have three with no problems
Egluntyne
The recommendation is 3.......and no more than 4 hens per nesting box, so even with the extension, no more than 4. It will be masses more room than they are used to anyway.
FruitandNutCake
You will need separate accommodation and run for the ex-batts to start with. It took me about 2-3 months before I could integrate all of mine together - and that was with a partitioned walk in run.
badgerbluebadger
Thanks for everyone's advice - I think after today and nearly losing Sam i will wait until we have got a bigger garden to get more chickens. The housing market should pick up in the next few years and a large garden will be on the top of the list along with getting a cube. Eveyone was right you really do want to get lots of them! Please let me know your thoughts! we hav 3 chooks whch we keep in a run wth extension and i would definitely get an extension for more than 2 chooks, its only fair that you give them more space. Especially ex. batterys. 3 chooks: hazel chestnut ranger
