First ever crouch in the Tulip household!!! UPDATED!!

Recommended Posts

Woooh I just have to tell everyone!

I came home from shopping today and went out to de-ice the girls' water (yet again). Three of them wandered away as I approached but Chive our double-laced Barnevelder instead shook her booty, stuck her wings out and crouched for me! I was so excited I nearly dropped the hot water I was caryying! Instead put it down and picked her up for a cuddle.

Now our girls aren't the most tame yet, so OH walked in, saw me having cuddles and went "How on earth did you manage that?!" Jealous? Probably, as he's the one that cleans them out every week ;)

Heeheeeeee! Dark brown eggs, here we come.

Now if only Chilli would become a bit easier to get hold of - she's got a dirty botty and needs a bath!

Ok, going to sound very 'novice'like but as I am fairly new I guess thats all right then

But, if they 'crouch' is that indicative of them getting ready to come into lay? My Storm has been doing it from when we got her, but the other two are very wary of me/us. I wondered if perhaps this is something else to watch out for as an indicator of when we might get more eggs.

TIA

Big red combs and Wattles and crouching are the main indicators

Thanks! I noticed that Storms comb and wattles had got redder a day or so before her first egg and wondered if she might lay. The crouching has been happening since we got her so about two weeks. No sign that the other two feel that way, just been out with their afternoon treat and Charlotte and Molly wound't come near, whereas Storm well, I got a very muddy cuddle :D

Thanks again for the tip :D

*drums fingers on the table*

Getting impatient now....

One of them was making a right bok-AAARK racket this afternoon and I thought the first egg had arrived - but it was just Cinnamon winding me up - she'd probably just spotted a gull, the monkey....

Woooooh, I got home tonight and did my usual egg-check by torch. Hopes were high as the nestbox had been disturbed yesterday (so much so, the china egg was buried deep!)

And here it is!

And for comparison....

Such a gorgeous colour, K and I are a very proud mummy and daddy tonight.
