What does Ukadex smell like?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, just a quick one. We seem to have a feather-plucking problem in our flock at the moment, starting when one of the girls molted, they ate the feathers around the run, but them proceeded to peck them off each other. All 10 of them have baldy bums now .

I've checked for lice, mites etc, all clear. So I ordered some Ukadex but I want to know what it smells like before I go spraying it. I have a weak stomach when it comes to smell unfortunately so would like to prepare my self in advance as to what it smells like, as apparently it's vile :anxious:.

Is it like a chemical smell (I'm fine with that)? Like nail varnish remover or petrol? Or is it completely different? Could anyone try and describe it for me?

Thanks all

I think it's a tarry smell. Definitely chemically  I used it on my new girls bums and their feathers started to grow back really well. After a couple of weeks it had worn off and I noticed a couple of them had little baldy bums again (although nowhere near as bad as at first) so I have resprayed them. It certainly seems to have deterred my feather knicker eaters!

Thanks guys, I'll look forward to it.

I really don't fancy that smell, but if it helps my girls get their knickers back I suppose I don't mind that much.

I will however be taking Egluntine's advice along with tissues up my nose and scarfs around my face . Because I suffer from M.E I'm pretty much feeling sick all the time. Any strong smell will stick in my nose for days, maybe weeks :(.

I might even put a white mask on too .

Hi guys, thank you all for the replies. Just one more question, does Ukadex have an egg withdrawal period?

I've had a little sniff of the cap on the bottle, you're right it stinks :vom:. I imagine it will smell more once sprayed.

To me it smells like ashtray and cabbage :vom::vom::vom:. I'm starting to feel a bit mean on the girls having to smell like that, but its getting to the point where they are constantly pulling each others feathers out. Their bums are raw red now. They aren't bored, they have plenty of activities in their run and plenty of room (24ft by 10 ft.)

As I said it started when Gemma molted and they where pulling the loose feathers out of her, and it went from there.

No idea re the egg withdrawal, but I didn't spray my girls with the revolting stuff.....I spray it into a jam jar - carefully so I don't get the blowback in my face :vom::wink: and paint it on them as their bald pecked bits are around their heads and necks. I wouldn't be able to spray accurately enough to miss ears and eyes as they fidget apart from anything else

Got to do another application as they aren't whiffy anymore....I can always tell when one of them comes near the back door when it's open the eau de cologne wafts gently in & corpses anything on the way!!

I wonder whether red mite are deterred by Ukadex....................

And I think 20 year old ashtrays with the liquour fermented........mmmm yummy :vom::lol::vom:

I bought a cheap disposable "babygro" from Flytsofancy to throw on when I'm applying the devil's potion and disposable gloves, it seems to protect my clothes ok, but boy does it linger if it makes contact with your skin...........................fairy liquid with loads of teatree masks it but not for long!!
