Anybody got exp of introducing a puppy to a dog?

Recommended Posts

Basically thinking of getting a puppy :D .

We already have Ruby who is nearly 9, however we have only had her nearly a year. She is a cross, possible JRT/Cavalier ish, she is a quiet dog, who tends to lie about all day and doesn't particularly like being left.

I have done some research, but would like to hear from real people who have done it. So any tips? Experience? Or pitfalls?

Thanks :D

....................also make sure that as much as possible you make it clear by your actions that the 'new' dog is the pack member below the 'old' one. Feed new dog after old one, let old one keep 'prime' sleeping arrangements, toys etc etc. Having a dog or dogs is all about pack hierarchy, you are at the top, let the older dog put the younger in its place - rarely will the older one do any damage to a pup.

Only suggestions - but hope they're worth having.

Thanks for your replies.

We have decided not to get another dog. Whilst the thought of a lovely cute puppy is very enticing - we realise we have to give priority to Ruby.

Whilst she is a very placid dog who needs company, she still likes to keep herself to herself.

Unfortunately she isn't very well today - she has got a dodgy tummy/runs :vom: She is off her food and is looking very sad and sorry for herself in her bed. She had a shampoo and cut the other day and they cut it really short - so because of that and how miserable she looks, she looks like a cruelty case......poor Ruby. :(
