helenmb
Wo-hoo found my first blue egg today, admittedly it was on the roosting bars and was much colder than the others so think it might have been layed at night. It weighs a delightful 54g. This is our first 5 egg day too Now the next question is, who layed it? I would normally assume our Cream Legbar Evadne but after posting a picture of her last week we thought she had Olivey coloured ears. Also, we have a Splash Leghorn called Pearl who was hatched from a so her breeder thought she might also lay a . I just went out again to see if I could take a picture of their ears (does that make me a bit of a saddo?) and Pearl did a little squat when one of the more dominant hens got up close behind her - Hmmm - still undecided if its her! Sorry, its really difficult to get the colour to look lifelike, the brown eggs are not quite to brown either! This is Pearl who's ear does look a bit bluish This is Evadne who's ear does look Olive coloured so is it her? This is Marigold who is laying the pure white eggs Will have to keep a very close eye out during the next few days, thankfully I'm working from home this week (with a little bit of chickeny diversion you understand!) . helenmb
I have to say it was a bit of a shock as I wasn't expecting it and nearly missed it too. Its only bccause to peered through the eggport in the Cube into the roosting areas and thought, what on earth is........OMG its an egg and I think its . Its really is a lovely pastel colour and the photo does not do it justice. My DH has just popped home and has been admiring it, he is a singing teacher and wanted to take it to show some of his pupils this afternoon - bless! helenmb
I love the pics !! Wonder what they were thinking at the time? Probably, get that contraption out of my face . Let the girls out at day break as have been keeping them locked in at night because, had a massive Fox in the garden (we suspected we had one locally for a while) at 3am which woke me up barking. It set off my and my neighbour's security light too which is how I know how big it was as I saw it quite close up! It didn't hang around, have a FoxWatch too so hope that helped. I could hear it barking for about 45 mins in the area as it was obviously doing its rounds in all the gardens. It was such as still a crisp night that the sound carried really well. Anyway, this morning Pearl came out of the cube for about 30 seconds and then went back into the nest area followed 5 minutes later by Blanche so in the nest box there are at the mo. So think it must be Pearl laying then. I'm sitting at my desk looking down the garden to the cube waiting for her to appear so I can go and find what treasure she has left - will it be a or a ?
