Thearose
My 2 guineas didn't make it to the winter. They were attacked and killed by something which squeezed through the wire run, not under it ( no sign of digging ) and before it was dark. Consequently my brand new eglu is unused and my children traumatised. I am angry that Omlet eglu market their product as vermin proof and they have simply not been interested in my mini tragedy. The vet said the injuries could have been caused by a weasel which apparently could get through the omlet's run mesh. I had no idea that this could happen and am shocked. What can I do? Sheilaz
My heart goes out to you, very sorry to hear the devastating news. Although I've not heard of this happening before, I was reading about rats this week & was shocked to think that perhaps they, & other small creatures, could perhaps squeeze through. I thought I was doing enough in shutting the door at night but apparently not. R.I.P. lovely guineas, & I'm so, so sorry for you & the children. Ain't Nobody Here
I'm so sorry to hear about your poor guinea pigs . I hope your children are OK . I know Omlet changed their wording for the chicken eglu run from "fox proof" to "fox resistant". I wonder if "vermin proof" might have been a bit misleading too . Thearose
Thanks for your comments. It is nice to feel a bit of support!! I have just finished covering the entire eglu run and skirt with a much finer wire mesh (which took ages!) I didn.t mention in my last message that I have one remaining guinea which survived the 'vermin' attack but has a missing ear. So, as of an hour ago, she is in the eglu again. She really had no quality of life in a tiny wooden hutch in the garage with us bringing her grass. I feel reasonably confident that she'll be safe. My worry is that maybe weasels can dig tunnels. The skirt is weighted down with 3 heavy planks of wood and bricks - I can't think of anything else I can do. Thanks again for your responses. Ain't Nobody Here
It sounds like you've taken pretty good precautions. Fingers crossed your poor little survivor will be safe now . Have you told Omlet about this, by the way?
