Introducing a couple more

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some guidance on introducing a couple of new chooks to my bantams.

The bantams are light sussex, so not true bantams, and are quite big. The kids want to have some interesting !egggreen!!eggblue!!eggbrown!!eggspeck! . So I was planning to get a legbar and a burford brown or similar - although I would probably get pullets at about 14/16wks rather than POL so they are a similar size to the bantams initially.

I'm in the process of building a new run which I'll be moving the bantams into - my question is....

if I wait until I get the new chooks to put them all into the new home, will this mean that I can just stick them all in together and let them get on with it?? - as it will be a new environment for all of them and no different from when I got the bantams in the first place and they were just shoved in together.

Thanks for advice everyone. I can see that this needs thinking about. Maybe should just stick with the 3 we've got. Only 1 is laying at the moment, but come the summer 3 a day will be more than enough eggs. Perhaps will wait until we're looking to replace the ones we have in a few years.
