DH and I were laughing because oop North, especially in the hills and dales, thick snow isn't all that unusual but because it happened in London it's suddenyl BIG NEWS!

That's what I was thinking . I heard an Aberdonian on the news last night saying what on earth was all the fuss about, they get snow like that every year .

That's the whole point though...you people oop North are used to heavy snow and have things ready in place to deal with it. Us softies down south hardly every see this type of snow, so we go into a complete tizzy when it happens, apparently some London boroughs ran out of grit and salt which is why the buses didn't run for a whole day. Also London loves to be in the spotlight, 'It's all about Us!!"

You're right Tessa . Having said that though, you'd think Edinburgh never had snow - they never seem to be prepared for it and the city often comes to a standstill in heavy snow .

I saw a fantastic shot on the lunchtime news - a woman in London, tottering along on ice wearing what looked like 5" heels

As my Dad always says 'there's no such thing as bad weather - just inappropriate clothing'

 

I have been seen wearing my ancient purple snow boots (from C&A'S) in this weather and they are so warm and don't slip at all, I even wore them to work and many of my female colleagues said what fantastic boots and where it I get them ( goes to prove hang onto something long enough and it become trendy again ).

Bit off topic but, what ever happened to C&A? I loved that shop as a child. (sad but true )

 

I was chatting with a friend on MSN the other night, she is in Canada, I told her it was snowing and that we had about an inch (at that time) which I then followed up with, the country will grind to a halt now She laughed as she has been shovelling snow for couple of weeks now. We actually got about 8 inches here, and I for one was glad they closed the school and preschool. With three children under 5, the youngest is a mere 7 months old, I was NOT looking forward to trying to negotiate the snow and ice on the footpaths. I chickened out today too, I made hubby take the eldest to school and kept my middle one home

I dont think it matters whether your used to it or not it still seems to cause Chaos, we get a fifteen minute road update on borders radio whenever it snows and it always makes me laugh, but its very useful.

 

I remember huge amounts of snow when I was younger did it cause the same chaos?

 

I got snowed in here when I first moved and worked in Abbeyhill, I phoned in to say , sorry wont be at work today, my car's in a snowdrift and the buses arent running, only to be told snootily well there no snow here.( never did like that boss)

 

But I lived in Sweden for a year and when it snows there it just gets deeper, and deeper , and deeper.... and life goes on undisturbed, you change your car tyres and off you go, not a bit of hassle
