mad house
Just wondering how many chooks can you fit in a cube? We keep getting rats burrowing under the run and worried that in the summer when we leave the door open they will get in and kill the clooks. Oh not happy that i want to spend more money but hey ho!! quickcluck
I think they say about
mad house
I know thats what they say on the website but i think thats a bit too cramped. We have 3 chooks in an eglu with a converter and that is just about right. I want more chooks and thought a cube would be better but was looking for people who have a cube to let me know how many they have in theirs. MadMitch
I have 8 big girls in my cube and wouldn't put any more in. You should be able to get 10 hybrids in though. It is really the size of the run which limits the amount of chickens.
Olly
Do you mean sleeping in a Cube, or kept in a Cube run? The Cube will hold 10 birds for sleeping purposes. The standard run is really only big enough for two or three hens, I have five with a standard run and one extension, and I don't think it's quite big enough, although if they had lots of free-range time (mine don't! ) it would be ok. You'll still need to do something about the rats though even if you buy a Cube put some slabs down, maybe?
Egluntyne
All 16 of my girls pile into the cube, despite my best efforts to get some of them into one of the Eglus. They are in a walk in run though, so they have plenty of room.
Topdollar
I have 8 hybrids in mine but there is still plenty of room in the cube when they roost. Mine free range alot of the time as I only have 1 extension on my run but I have plans to build a large walk in run in the spring.

I agree it's the size of the run which is more important to consider.
chelsea
The cube itself really isnt a problem, it is the run. You could definitely get 10 in roosting but not in a cube with a standard run.
mad house
Thanks for that, it answers my question nicley. We have an eglu at the moment and have 3 hens in there, with standard run andone extension which seem to be an ok fit. Was planning on another couple in a cube which would make 5. probably with a standard run plus one extension. Just dont tell oh....shuush Still a bit worried about the rats though, cant really put down poisen as the cat would eat it. We tried to put the eglu on slabs but instead put a layer of wire mesh down and the eglu on top which was fine until the little devils decided to burrow under the side wire
