Just order some youngsters

Recommended Posts

Well I only rang Wernlas to see what was available  ...and I seem to have ordered a Silver-Grey Dorking, a Cream Legbar and a dark brown egg layer (I am not sure if it was a Welbar or a Barnebar I said yes to!). They will be ready for collection as soon as they can sex the Dorking (around 8 weeks?). So now I have a timescale for sorting out the fence, patio & cube before they arrive (the big girls will move into the cube and the new ones in the Eglu until old enough for introductions).

So if anyone knows anything/has pictures of Barnebar's or Welbars please let me know, I think I might have to ring back and double check which one I ordered! Knowing more about their eggs would be good.

I am very :D:D:D

OK so I rang them back, it was a Barnebar I had ordered, but I have now changed the 3rd one to a double laced Barnvelder :lol: they are just soo pretty - the disadvantage is I will have to wait longer as they will not be able to sex until about 14 weeks (Barnebar are autosexing so would have been available as soon as the Dorking was sexed).

I am sure waiting the extra 6 weeks will be worth it for such a great looker. Egg colours from these three (when they deem to lay, as not overly prolific!) will be sky blue, white and dark brown.:dance::dance:

How lovely Tracy :D

Barnies aren't easy to sex early, well my chicks weren't.

I know - that was the problem - I could have a a Barnebar with the other 2 at about 8 weeks old, as soon as the Dorking has breast feathers you can tell them apart, but by changing to a Barnveldar Wernlas thing they can usually tell at around 14 weeks - so I have to be patient and wait for all three - far better than two rounds of intros.

Mine is a mini that I hatched from some of Lesley's eggs (not hers personally I hasten to add) two and a half years ago. Betty is very friendly, hopping on shoulders. Here are a few photos:

We hatched 2 barnies and a 'white job' in that batch.

Sorry the pics are so big - photobucket is being a pain!
