Stockholm Tar

Recommended Posts

As I am unable to locate any Ukadex, and everyone tells me the Johnsons spray is not very effective, my local store suggested using Stockholm Tar. Has anyone else tried it as anti pecking agent ? I am feeling desperate so will probably pop out and get some in a moment

thanks Eglutine!! Just had a look cant see where they are based, there is no postal address that I can see, I am always cautious when ordering from a distance, there is only an 0844 contact number and an e-mail address. A bit anonymous for my liking but will check again later as I have probably missed the obvious

I have bought a Stockholm tar spray £5.69, much cheaper than Ukadex which was £17 on the above web site, and some purple spray. Will "go a spraying" after lunch

We have some, bought from a chicken supply place about 2 years ago. It worked for us, but the pecking wasn't very bad. We were spraying the bald monks head bit on wet polands which got pecked at night. It was easy to control too, and I have to admit I quite like the smell :D

I would have warned you against buying it, but im a bit late! It does work, and if it is your last option, then you may as well give it a go. Be aware that it stinks and it stains. Also check the sprayed area regularly, as I have heard more than once (It happened on 2 of our chickens that I put it on) that it actually makes the area very sore rather than soothing it! It is a good anti peck solution otherwise, just make sure that her bald patch doesnt get sore!

Well the pecking doesnt seem to be happening and Primrose is perkier and eating well. She looks......curious.......purple spray on the pecked area and ST all around the area :lol:

I was careful T around the injured area rather than directly on it, and the spray is only 10% ST. I am planning to reapply ST daily and purple spray every 3rd day, does that sound about right?

The smell reminded me of the old Nelsons Inhalators we used to use on the chest wards, cant remember what it was we put in them ...was is Tincture of Benzine ??

I guess so, its used on various animals including horses. I found it in the equine section.

I think the smell is more tar than creosote although I confess to loving both smells. I miss creosoting the fences .

Reading that article makes you wonder what it does doesnt it??

luckilly this spray isnt quite as sticky as Tinc Benz, altough Primrose did look even quainter when she went into the dust bath (ash from woodburner) straight after I sprayed her :roll: I think shes going through her psychodelic phase (grey, brown and purple!!)
