CannyCat
I got a call today from Penny to arrange my Eglu delivery tomorrow. Unfortunately they're all out of Pepperpots and Gingernut Rangers which I have to admit to being quite disappointed about - I am ginger, and had gotten quite excited about the prospect of a 2nd cool chick in the house But, being that the next time I can be at home to accept a delivery is November, I decided against waiting for the Gingernuts and Pepperpots to come in again. Instead they're sending me two other chickens, but I can't recall what they were - something she described as a Salt and Pepperpot and something else white with red bits... Does anyone know what kinds of chickens Omlet is stocking nowadays, so I can look them up online before they arrive? Thanks
The Dogmother
Last time I went over to the mothership, I posted that I had seen some new types of chooks - they had some the looked like Sussex Stars and some that looked like Bluebelles. I understand that they have changed suppliers recently so that might be the reason. They all looked very healthy and friendly
CannyCat
Those look like the ones she described, although the names don't ring a bell - I was in the middle of the chemist getting a prescription at the time, and wasn't paying enough attention! Thanks Claret
The Dogmother
Some suppliers have different names for what are essentially the same breed. Meadowsweet used to do that. I have just checked and the website hasn't been updated to show the new breeds yet, I guess they'll get down to it, unless these breeds are just temporary. I understand that they used to stock other breeds when they started out.

But as long as they're as cuddly as the gingernuts, I'm happy

Elaine C
I think it may be something to do with problems with Meadowsweet at the moment. I was due to get an amber star and copper moran from an Meadowsweet Agent in Borden at the end of August but she has had problems with supplies from them. I did contact Barabara as I was concerned that a collegue from work was due to get his eglu and chooks in couple of weeks time. She mentioned that some people are getting slightly different hybrids at the moment so it's probably a temporary situation. Anyway, if you're getting the sussex star and bluebelle they look lovely, especially the bluebelle and I'm sure you'll be hooked like the rest of us! You could always add another cool ginger chook to the house at a later date or maybe two E

Elaine C
Yes, Meadowsweet Poulty are suppliers and distribute through a national network of agents. If you look on the Meadowsweet website there should be descriptions of the the girls you are going to get. Sorry can't remember the address but you should be able to find easily if you google. Enjoy your new girls E

Guest
Here's my 2 newest Bluebelles, Hunney and Darling They really are lovely, friendly placid birds, who love to follow you round the garden in the hope of getting treats! Hunney and Darling are a bit pecked in that photo - they were bottom of the heap at the breeders - if you want to see a photo of a gorgeous Bluebelle, you need to bat your eyelids at Revnev - his Mrs Miggens is a stunner! swindon_clucker
I've just heard from barbara via email that they are experiencing a shortage of pepperpots and ginger nuts so they are sending out 'salt and pepperpots'/ speckeldy and bluebelles i think they look as cool as the normal hybrids
Chooks Aloud
Omlet had run out of the Gingernut Rangers too when I went to pick mine up. Instead we got a Speckledy, a Miss Pepperpot and a grey one - which I can only assume from looking at the photos is a Bluebelle. And I can confirm they are all lovely. The Miss Pepperpot (Chico) is still a bit wary of us, the Speckledy (Darla) is lovely and friendly and no bother to pick up, but the Bluebelle (Dolly) is the leader, first for literally everything and follows me around the garden all the time. It doesn't matter where you are or what you want to do she is there poking her beak in everywhere - a right little character. She is also the first to lay, my daughter actually saw her laying her egg the other day and she produces a pale brown one - delicious. Aunty e
My Bluebelle is called Dolly! she hates me though, ever since the whole sour crop thing and the enforced vomiting for five hours thing. Fair enough really. She's nice once you've got hold of her, and very nosy. keeps trying to topple Maggie from the top of the pecking order. And lays lovely eggs. northernexiled
The big hybrids usually are cuddly, they are bred for their good, docile nature. One of mine is an amber cross and so affectionate - she runs to me everytime I see her and whenever I'm in the garden always pushes in to see what I'mup to. You can nevr judge a breed by its label tho our whitestar is top hen in our mob - strted off meek and now stands no messing Sue
ubereglu
Yes Elaine you would be right in guessing I have bluebelles-2 in fact. Here's some piccies: Starlet-She lays brownish eggs with bumpy speckles on the wide end. Muddles and Henrietta (Black Rock). Muddles lays light brown eggs either plain or small speckles. Henrietta lays large pale eggs-but she's moulting at the minute.
northernexiled
My Bluebelle is called Dolly! she hates me though, ever since the whole sour crop thing and the enforced vomiting for five hours thing. Been there myself except the blockage took three sessions before she gave it all up She runs a mile when she sees my partner now - hasnt stopped her gorging tho Sue

Can you tell me what chickens you were sent??? I'm a wee bit worried about it now...like you I was especially looking forward to a ginger one!!! I was sent a Sussex Star (white) and a Speckeldy (black). The Omlet delivery man said that the Sussex star is basically a gingernut crossed the other way around; i.e. bred from the same 2 types of chicken, but (he said) the male chook is what defines the colouring etc (hope that makes sense). I was worried I'd be disappointed, but I'm not - they're really lovely girls
