What to do?

Recommended Posts

I have a rabbit who particularly likes sitting in the litter tray :vom:

This has resulted in her fur on the underneath side becoming wet and "straggly". I'm worried about this, especially for when it turns to summer because of flystrike etc.

Is there any way I can wash her underneath and paws?

Have you tried using Auboise or Hemcore in the litter tray as these soak up the wet really well so might help keep your bunny drier.

My boy bunny sometimes sits in his litter tray but he also likes sitting in an old dog basket that I put in his run for him. Have you tried putting something else in for him to sit in?

I've never bathed a bunny, I'm not sure if its advisable or not - if no one else comes back with help on here you could try looking on the Rabbit Rehome website as they have loads of useful info on there.

What I do is put a layer of megazorb (or some wood pellet cat little can be used) in the litter tray. On top of that I put a layer of hay. The litter is very absorbant and the hay tends to keep quite dry. Change this every day.

If you need to clean them I would gently use baby wipes (as natural ones a possible).

Hi

Bunnies often sit pr lie or sleep in the litter tray so you want something absorbant, I use wood pellets which they can also nibble on. Be careful of cat litter which swells and it very bad for bunnies if they eat it. Baths are not good for bunnies as it causes them too much shock but I have had to do so once for a similar reason the advice I was given keep the water shallow, dont let the soap go near the face and keep them as warm as possible. So I had towels on the radiator and used a hair dryer on a low setting to dry her and keep her warm.

They have the oddest habits, when Mac was small she would sleep in her litter tray
