Single hen

Hello chicken enthusiasts!

I have my Eglu ready to go and the new girls are coming on Saturday.

It's all new to me so can anyone tell me if the ex bats will be okay to walk about in the Eglu run or are they going to need help until they get their strength up??

Mine didn't really move much for the first 2 days after putting them into the run. I had to pick them up and put them to bed the first night. They didn't find the food in the grub for the first couple of days either but seemed to like scratching around the floor for it so i'd suggest putting some mash either in little piles on the floor or into something really obvious and easy for them to find. I've only had mine a couple of weeks now and after the first few days they really start to come out of their shells and turn into real characters. Just be prepared for that first couple of days of them standing still doing nothing and looking shell shocked!! All perfectly normal and very rewarding to watch them begin to recover and turn into real hens!!

They wil be fine in the Eglu run.

 

Mine were very feeble and couldn't hop up some shallow steps we have in the garden at first, but managed well in the Eglu and run.

Congrats on joining the ex-batt fan club . They will be fine in the eglu and will just need a little help at first with things like "bed" and "out", as they won't have had the options before.

 

They do come on very quickly and you will absolutely love them from the start no matter how pathetic they look. Prepare to be smitten! .
