Freecycle-how long to leave an offer before you re-offer it

Recommended Posts

I managed to place my first offer Monday on Freecycle and have had loads of replies since - amazing how many people want a tatty old cement mixer!

I offered it to the first person who replied yesterday at about 8am and have heard nothing since. How long should I leave it until I offer it to the others & say the first one to give a pickup time gets it? DH says send a message to say if no response by lunchtime re-offer it.

I know somebody will have a thought for me. I've been on the site & can't find a terms & conditions section to check the rules & regs.

Hi

It is up to you. I tend to give between 24 & 48hrs but beyond that I reason that if they've put in a request they ought to check their email. I offered a childrens play tunnel last week got someone wanting it so replied with my phone number so he could arrange collection. Waited a couple of days then gave it to the next person and I just realised the original person has still not contacted us.

Ok I replied to her yesterday at 8ish, so lunchtime today isn't so tight for a timing is it, I've emailed again to say if I haven't heard by lunchtime I'll offer it to the next person.

I had to reply to someone on Monday who had said first person to advise by email a pickup time would get it, I did & collected a tumbling composter yesterday. Maybe I'll try this tack with the others this evening.

TBH I didn't give my telephone number as I'd prefer to do it by email, if she replies I'll give her my number then.

I've had that too - people make an offer then disappear offline.... one person on our board, who made a habit of doing that has been banned.

I usually email them back asking them to confirm a pick up time by a certain time and tell them that I have a few people interested, so if they can't collect/reply then I will offer it to the next person on the list. I think that's fair enough.

I hope that you get it sorted.

I wasn't sure when DH would be around to drag it out of the veg patch where it has resided for the past 6 months & be able to check it over, that's why I didn't give her a pick up time etc. Also I'd rather somebody was here when it's collected & we are in & out for next day or so during the evenings.

DH was very efficient at hoiking it out & plugging it in, so now it's standing in the drive I just want it gone!!
