ive picked up some books from Freecycle

 

unfortunately, they seem to be from a "smoking" household, and they absolutely stink

 

when Kev smoked, our books didnt smell like this

 

is there anything I can do to reduce the smell of them, i dont think I can read them in this state

I wonder if sprinkling them with Bicarb of Soda would help. It's very good at neutralising smells and I wouldn't have thought it should harm them so long as they don't get damp.

try putting the book in a sealed bag with a dryer sheet for a few days?

Or, try putting them in a sealed bag with some cat litter (clean)

spray the pages with febreeze and leave to dry?

 

What about putting some scented drawer liners inbetween the pages of all the books now, and then leave them for a while?
