Bantambabe
Hi guys, very excited as new chook coming this afternoon. Mulk cov is giving his chook to us as it's all on it's own since a fox got its friend (thanks Sam). It should be arriving with temporary eglu loan sometime between 2.30 and 3.30 --that's now.... (can you tell I'm excited?)

Bantambabe
She has arrived!!!! We didn't know anything about her really, but she's an omlet girl... and seems to have survived the journey from Coventry very well - she got straight into munching the grass. She doesn't come with a name, so we shall have a vote over dinner tonight I think. The eglu loan is very generous and I shall get it back to Sam asap as I know he wants to sell it - look out for it in a few weeks time. I've been a bit concerned about introducing 1 to my 3 girls, so I've arranged to take on another one as well from the friends son who sold me the banties. hopefully that will be coming this week and then I can look towards integrating them from next weekend. It's made me realise how big LS bantams are though - some friends of ours told us last year they were quite big - but they aren't much smaller than this new girl. I suppose full size LS hens are HUGE as they are dual-purpose birds.

Bantambabe
I think they'll be ok - the LS banties seem to leave loads of space when I check on them in the eve and they have a 3m x 2m walk-in run with lots of distractions. I wouldn't go to more than 5 though - for one thing, I don't know what we would do with the eggs!
Cooks
I am looking forward to more eggs myself

Bantambabe
Martha (as she is to be known) spent a comfortable first night and was keen to get out and get exploring this morning. I was a bit worried about her yesterday afternoon as, after lots of activity when she first arrived, she was just hunched up in the middle of the run for about half an hour. We then noticed a "glowing alien egg" (YS) I think the trauma of being moved had upset her laying mechanism and she laid a perfect egg - she just forgot to put the shell on it! Kids thought it was "wicked" Not expecting an egg from her today - I think that was it. But she's very happy again now.
