Pellets V Mash - wrong decision??!!

Recommended Posts

This BHWT food, can ordinary hens have it or is it just for ex-batts? If it doesn't get thrown about so much it might be worth a try? :?

Sorry that last question was directed at Laurmurf I know your's don't like it :D

I bought it to try and used it on it's own (cause it's already fortified) in one of 3 grubs I have, the other two had the usual mix of pellets, bokashi bran, poultry spice, diatom earth and garlic powder. The girls emptied the BHWT crumb instantly! I don't know whether the taste is better or they liked the texture better, but it's worked a treat. I've got a couple of bags of pellets to get through but am going to go over to undoctored crumb altogether I think.

so the answer is a big YES - it is great for non-bats! It's got lots of goodness in it so, as far as i understand it doesn't require all the extras i usually use.

Picking up this thread again after a couple of days away from the pc - a question for laurmurf - what has the crumb got in it - has it got bokashi (which I really rate)?

I think when I get to the bottom of my mash, I'll go cold turkey with pellets with a side of bokashi. I too spent Sunday s"Ooops, word censored!"ing mash off the run floor - I can think of better ways to spend an afternoon

there's a thread all about this food - called BHWT something or other... posted by buffie. Have a look at it as I think it explains best what's different about this food, as well as the connections with the BHWT. If I was a super IT genius, like Egluntine, I'd have a clever link that said *click here* but I'm a bit of a numpty...

Thanks Laurie - I found it. A very worthy feed but think I'll go back to my pellets and bokashi side idea! If I can find the ex bat feed locally I'll give it a try but am convinced that any complete quality food should give them all they need - we just give them extras because they look at us so sweetly (certain conditions excepting of course!)

I would like to try the BHWT food, but having read the blurb it says that it's suitable for 'older chickens' - does this mean Older Chickens i.e. knocking on in years, maybe stopped laying etc.? So would it be OK for my 1 year old Barnevelder and Cochin? :?

It sounds appealing 'cos having kept them on the normal pellets for a week - they are eating it with a big beaky face on - but only 'cos I'm giving them NOTHING else! :shameonu: It would be good to be able to give them a good quality food that they really enjoy :D
