jackiepoppies
Mine have showed no sign of moulting....I have had them nearly a year and I was wondering if this is fairly normal I am sure this will have been asked before so apologies Jx
meezers
I don't think it's an exact thing, they may go longer than a year, they may do a full moult or mini moult. I've had mine a year now, Lottie had a full moult last November - just when the weather turned cold - feathers EVERYWHERE for weeks on end ! Pepper had a mini moult, just a few tail and neck feathers missing, Hattie may or may not have had a mini moult, if she did it was very mini- just a few feathers under her chin Elsie is now moulting, but just looks generally scruffy, not many feathers actually falling out. The other 2 haven't taken part yet .
Hen Watch
I've had mine nearly 2 years so they must be roughly 2yrs 3 months old. None of them have had a full moult. Only Henrietta lost her neck feathers for a month and Amber lost the feathers on top of her head too, but they regrew and that seems to be about it. When I got lots of white feathers strewn around the garden some months back I thought, this is it, Stella is going to moult, but no, she didn't. Have to say I am puzzled. chelsea
I think it depends on when they hatched doesnt it? My maran is 2 years old, the 1st year we had full egg production over 12 months with no winter break or moult. Year 2 we had a winter break and moult. Funny little things arent they?
