cluckbok
Well our faithful Rosie a Columbian Blacktail (Calder Ranger) is an excellant layer all year round. They do stop during a moult obviously but we not had her moult yet. We can always rely on Rosie. I do love the unusual breeds and hens with fancy hairdos etc, but hubby def thinks you can't go wrong with one of them.

pinkmagic
Don't think you can beat a hybrid for year round eggs.
Chillicat
The Omlet girls (Pepperpot and Gingernut Ranger) haven't missed a day ALL year round, since they started laying. We've had them 1 year and 13 days today! So that's about £403 worth of eggs............. Hmm, rather than give them away I'm going to start selling them So, hybrids for laying more regularly, but I'm not sure if they run out of eggs earlier than the pure breeds................? cordelia
our Rhode Island reds are good layers... they started laying in December 2008
Autumn
Barnevelders are good year round layers and very pretty too!
westleigh
i think orps are known for being poor layers,i have quite a few differant breeds and they all laid well through the winter
Cooks
My Coral (white hybrid bird) rarely misses a day, my black rock is almost as good but sometimes misses a day and then lays a much bigger egg the following day, so sort of a brucey bonus! my other two girls are so new and have only just started laying, however things are looking promising, I am overflowing with eggs already. chelsea
Marans, Rhode Island Red, Speckeldy, or hybrids are good layers. Avoid anything fluffy, fancy or heavy (cochin, brahma, orpington etc) prone to broodiness.
