I haven't been on here much  as I've been researching mine. Haven't got far on Ancestry. Didn't help that names have been wrongly transcribed on a census :( However, genes is another matter and I've found details back to the 1700's through distant relations trees.

This family history stuff fascinate me. I can trace my mum's side of the family to way, way back, however, she was the last of her line. Once she died, the whole ancestory was lost. Her surname was James and only myself and my nephew carry on the name in our middle names. I reckon i must have relatives in both Australia and India though. On my mothers side one of my ancestors was deported and later pardoned, but never returned to the UK. On the paternal side, my grandmother's brother went to India and was never seen again. Shame that, because they had some money left them and he had a taking of it. Never got to have it though. Unlikely to get it also, they were born in Edwardian times. For some reason, i suspect he's dead? :) However, would be interested to know if i have relatives in India.

Its so interesting what can be found out about our ancestors. I'm currently heloing my grandma with our family tree and we have managed to go back to 1791 so far on her side.

Also it has got my dad involved so we are also looking at his side of the family where one person emigrated to Australia and had family out there so there are some distance relatives still living out there. Also my great grandpa fought in WW1 in Canada, not sure why he went to Canada to fight though :?

That is a spooky coincidence, Miffy :o .

Her surname was James and only myself and my nephew carry on the name in our middle names.

My maiden name is James and my son has it as his middle name too :D .

How spooky is that :) we might be related? The James side of my family originated from the Forest of Dene. However, later from Worksop. It was one of the James's that was deported to Australia. My Great Grandmother was Priscilla James and my Great Grand-father Edwin. My Grand-father was Arthur James, married to Edith Mallett.
