HumphreyTheCat
We brought home our Eglu today and by the time it was set-up, it was dark. When we opened the cardboard box that held our Gingernut Ranger and Pepperpot inside the Elgu, the Gingernut wouldn't come out of the box. We had to shake the box rather roughly to get her to come out. Now, she won't go into the Eglu. It's after 10:00 pm, we keep going out and she just keeps looking at us from the run and clucking ... we tried the flashlight trick in the Eglu but she doesn't want to move. Our Pepperpot has been a good girl and gone right in but the Gingernut is driving us nuts. Any suggestions? Thank you!
Redwing
Shut the Eglu door, grab the Gingernut and post her through the eggport door! its a bit undignified but when she goes in to the run in the morning she will know where to go back to bed Welcome to the mad world of chicken keeping! McChook
I agree with Redwing - had to show my Gingernut and Pepperpot on the first night, once they knew where to go they were fine
HumphreyTheCat
Thank you both! It worked, they are now both safely locked in for the night.

JB09
Hi, I got my chikens on Thursday and had the same problem. Our Pepperpot went in with a little persuasion from the broom. Our gingernut was not having any of it though so ended up putting her through the side door! However they have made there way back in everynight since! Hope they cotton on quickly! annettec
We had the same problem with our Silkie as she had been kept inside so never needed to go to bed at night . We guided her with a mop the first 2 nights but seemed a little undignified so used the torch in the Eglu method , it worked immediately !
