annettec
My three girls arrived on Friday ! Is it normal for them to spend longish periods in the Eglu during the day they are not laying yet as POL and do pop out for food and drink etc Thanks for any clues just not sure whats normal or not and don't want to miss any behaviour that may mean they are poorly? Gruffalo
Welcome to the world of chicken keeping! When we got our two girls in November they did exactly the same thing for the first couple of days. I think they just feel its safe and protected in there while they suss out their new surroundings. I'm sure they'll come out and explore as they gain confidence. Tweety
As long as they are eating and drinking I wouldn't worry. They are probably just getting used to their new home and, as Gruffalo says, they will come out once they have settled down. Enjoy them! tania
Ours did the same. They spent almost the whole of the first week inside the Eglu, only venturing out for some food and water (infact you'll see a post from me with the same query as yours) . Now they are out in their run or free ranging and are so friendly that I have to creep out of the house witout them seeing me otherwise they fly/run/wobble with huge speed to see me. Lovely but they can't always come with me!
