CannyCat
Wow, those sounds great! Do you think they would work if you shallow fried them, or baked them instead?
ali-s
I have only eaten them at work and they have always been deep fried. I will ask the Chef if they could be shallow fried or baked. The finished eggs are enormous and very filling so I usually share one with a friend at work. melcotton
any news on whether these can be baked? I have some bantie eggs to use up so this recipe would be great! Mel
Lesley
I think Kate makes a version that can be baked - but probably with the usual sausage meat covering. I'll give her a nudge. I have made them with very cheesy mashed potato as a covering and have baked those.

Guest
Does it have to be SCOTTISH cheddar cheese Ali? Actually, I'm not sure I've seen any Scottish cheese in the shops. We have Welsh cheese. Maybe I just don't know it when I see it!
ali-s
Of course Orkney Cheese is my favourite

Linda
Thanks Ali. I've got some of that Seriously Strong Cheddar in my fridge at the moment! Sainsburys had it on a special offer last week. It's certainly a good strong flavour and great to use in cooking as well.
ali-s
I forgot all about asking the chef at work about baking the scotch eggs I am off work at the moment but have to phone this afternoon to let them know when I will be going back. I will try and remeber to ask then

ali-s
Chef at work doesn't see any reason why the scotch eggs cannot be cooked in the oven. It is just easier to deep fry them at work because of the quantities involved. I was told to cook them as you would for a shop bought scotch egg and make sure they are piping hot throughout.
